Ski Slopes
Streaming over snow-white hills
early morning sunbeams bridle
fluffy, puffy tufts of snow
thrown by skis
as bright-capped skiers
twist and turn when down they go.
Orange, red and yellow mittens,
scarves in browns and blues fly by:
symphony in speed and color
under flags of blue-white sky.
Experts and beginners glide
single file, or side by side,
down steep slopes,
hills low and wide,
icy center, crunchy side.
Patting charcoal furrows tight
up they stomp, and down they slide
changing patterns as they ride
dawn to dusk to almost night
by virgin fields of misty light.
Moonlight finally gleams in streamers,
night hangs curtains over all.
Secretly, in thick flaked darkness
fresh snows
fall.
