The Queen of Numbers has her say –
an ancient skill that to this day
affects us all;
and in a way we need to know
what lies behind a 1 or 2
or some such kind of symbol that we find
in every corner of our mind.
The lure of numbers in a game,
in the stock market, just the same,
in governments, churches, schools and shops
reminding us that they are just props
for life itself – yet solid as rocks.
But that is still not all we know.
Mother Nature, always putting on a show
of flowers, insects, ocean waves and sand
shows us new numbers with a slight of hand
that Mr. Fibonacci found just grand.
The Queen of Numbers unperturbed
like Fibonacci, so I’ve heard –
(a relative of hers without a doubt)
Shows us the magic of numbers that shout –
“look at us twirl and move about”
and as their merry dance subsides
they disappear and now they hide inside a sum.
As for the Queen of Numbers, her work is done.
